Jonathan coaches VRI's Adult Beginner Class. He started fencing in 2002 and has been coaching since 2010. He is the former Head Coach of the North Queensland Fencing Academy where he oversaw the training and development of four coaches, and moved to Melbourne in 2013 to train with VRI's Head Coach Gerry Adams. Prior to making the move, Jonathan was coached by Olympian and fencing master Cornel Vena.

In 2010 Jonathan won the inaugural North Queensland Fencing Championships. Although he considers himself a recreational fencer, Jonathan coaches fencers to a competitive level, and his fencers have achieved podium finishes at regional, state and national competitions.
