VRI Swordplay introduces young children (ages 7-11) to fencing in a fun environment where the focus is on ‘skills’ rather than ‘drills’.
Classes include warm-up and skills-based games, group skills classes, bouting and fencing games. As students progress, they learn basic fencing skills including standing en garde, simple footwork, being able to hit the opponent, and simple actions with a weapon..
Younger children initially use light plastic swords and masks for safety and to allow more time to focus on games and developing coordination. Costs include all classes plus VRI club membership, and all equipment is provided. Visit our Swordplay page for more information.
If your child is 12 or over, see Fencing for Kids or contact VRI to enquire about the best pathways to fencing.
